Mars netters net sweep
Brooke Davidson had eight kills and Kelly Berry and Jodi Leopold had six kills each to lead the Mars girls volleyball team to a 25-14, 25-15, 25-17 non-conference victory over South Fayette on Monday.
Mars (12-1) will play at Riverview today.
Moniteau 3, Karns City 1 - Kristin Baronetski had six kills and seven blocks and Amber Dillaman added three aces, four kills and five block as the Warriors beat the Gremlins 25-20, 26-24, 16-25, 25-15.Randi Campbell added eight digs and Kendra Hall five digs for Moniteau (6-5, 6-4).Karns City won the junior varsity game 25-18, 25-20.
Freeport 3, Deer Lakes 0 - Kelly Acre had 16 service points, six kills, five blocks and four assists for the Yellowjackets (12-0, 10-0).Stephanie Leslie added 20 points and 27 assists in the win while teammate Marissa DeSalvo tallied six kills and four blocks.
Jamie Albert and KariLee Cowan both scored to lead Butler to a 2-1 section win over Shaler.The Golden Tornado improved to 10-4-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the section.<B>Slippery Rock 9, Conneaut Valley 1 -</B> Jence Rhoads had four goals and an assist and Kelsey Drennan three goals and an assist to power the Rockets.Alex Vuletich and Brittney Freiters also had a goal and assist each and Catherine Fodor also earned an assist.Slippery Rock (13-4, 9-0) will play at Kennedy Catholic Thursday.<B>Knoch 4, Highlands 2</B> - Amanda Sharbaugh scored two goals and also had two assists to lead the Knights to the win.P.J. <B>Penn-Trafford 4, Butler 3 -</B> Goals by Mark Hitchcock, Tony Manfred and Zach Jones couldn't prevent the Tornado from dropping this season opener at Hotshots Arena in Scottdale.Butler (0-1) will face Seneca Valley Black at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Neville Island.
