James McCollough Jr.

James K. McCollough Jr., 61, of Butler died Friday at St. John’s Specialty Care Center in Mars.

He was born June 23, 1944, in Karns City, the son of James K. and Olive B. McElroy McCollough Sr.

He graduated from Karns City in 1962 and had worked for the Armco Steel Plant in Butler in the Machine Shop for 31 years until his retirement in 1999.

He was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Butler. He had coached Center Township midget football and baseball leagues, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan.

Mr. McCollough loved spending time with his grandchildren, and had enjoyed camping and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Bettie A. Geibel McCollough, whom he married April 11, 1964; five children, Wendy A. McCollough, James A. McCollough and Michael A. McCollough and his wife, Judy, all of Butler, Kathy J. Dick, and her husband, Brian, of Hadley, Pa., and Brian K. McCollough, and his wife, Kasey, of Lyndora; six grandchildren, Corbin, Kyiva, Lev, Montana, Marena, and Lyra; three sisters, Mary Joyce Graham and her husband, William, of Bruin, Darlene Cousins and her husband, Ronald, of Aldred and Phyllis Dodd and her husband, Ronald “Butch,” of Karns City; and two brothers, Gary McCollough and his wife, Shelly, of Leechburg and Dennis McCollough, and his wife, Darlene, of Karns City, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, and his stepfather, Harlin Smeltzer.

McCOLLOUGH — Friends of James K. McCollough, Jr., who died, Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, will be received at the GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Extension, Butler. The Rev. James Salberg, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Butler County Memorial Park Cemetery.
