Warriors slog through mud to beat Bald Eagle

The Bald Eagle High School field was reduced to a giant mud puddle.

But Moniteau proved it could slop its way through it.

Matt Schandelmeier plowed for 108 yards and a touchdown and Adam Cousins added 56 yards on the ground as the Warriors outlasted Bald Eagle 21-6 Friday night.

"It was huge for us," said Moniteau coach Steve Wilson. "It was big because we were out of our conference and playing a team that plays the likes of Tyrone."

After a sluggish first quarter, Moniteau (4-2) put two touchdowns on the board in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by Josh Loos and an 18-yard scamper by Schandelmeier.

Bald Eagle cut the lead to 14-6 in the third period on a 3-yard scoring run by Brian Kochick, but the Warriors added an insurance score in the fourth quarter on a 17-yard pass from Garth Kohlmeyer to Ryan Protzman.

The Warriors' defense held Bald Eagle to just 105 total yards.

"It was a mud bowl out there," Wilson said. "But this win will be a big lift for us."

Moniteau will host Karns City, which upset Clarion, for a big Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference showdown next week.

"Our kids will be excited as will theirs," Wilson said. "It's going to be a good one."
