STARS

Michael Bush, Louisville, ran for a career-high 204 yards and three touchdowns in the No. 24 Cardinals' 61-10 rout of Florida Atlantic. Bush was the first Cardinals player to top 200 yards rushing since Anthony Shelman had 220 in 1994.

Bruce Eugene, Grambling St., threw for 618 yards and seven touchdowns as the Tigers' crushed the Prairie View 56-7. Eugene broke Doug Williams' school record for career scoring passes. Eugene completed 34 of 50 passes and had three receivers with over 100 yards.

Ryan Cole, Eastern Washington, rushed for a career-best 154 yards and five touchdowns, and the Eagles rallied to beat Portland State 42-24.

Dante Ross, Bucknell, ran for 268 yards and three touchdowns and threw for another score, setting a school record for rushing yards by a quarterback and beating Marist 27-7.

Drew Weatherford, Florida State, passed for 234 yards and three touchdowns, ran for another TD and the sixth-ranked Seminoles beat Syracuse 38-14.

Nick Hartigan, Brown, rushed for 252 yards and four touchdowns in the Bears' 45-35 victory over Rhode Island. Hartigan moved into second place on Brown's career rushing list with 3,223 yards, 43 shy of the school record set by Michael Malan from 1999 to 2001.

Zac Taylor, Nebraska, threw 36-of-55 for 431 yards and two touchdowns, setting school records for completions and yards in a 27-20 win over No. 23 Iowa State in double overtime.

Mike Hass, Oregon State, caught seven passes for 161 yards and a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, helping the Beavers beat Washington State 44-33. Hass has had nine straight games with at least 100 receiving yards.

Michael Jump, La Salle, threw for 325 yards and five touchdowns - including a 25-yard TD pass in double overtime - to beat Iona 39-32.

Brady Quinn, Notre Dame, passed for 440 yards and three touchdowns, leading No. 13 Notre Dame to a 49-28 victory over 22nd-ranked Purdue. Quinn finished the game 29-of-36 passing - a career-high 80.5 percent completion rate.

TOP OF THE HEAP

USC rallied from 18 points down at the half to beat No. 14 Arizona State 38-28 and break a Pac-10 and school record for consecutive victories. The Trojans won their 26th in a row with help from LenDale White and Reggie Bush, who ran for a combined 355 yards and two scores each.

MENDED HART

Mike Hart returned from an injury to run for 218 yards and a touchdown in Michigan's 34-31 overtime win over No. 11 Michigan State. Hart, out for two-plus games with a hamstring injury, helped the Wolverines avoid their worst start since 1967.

OUT WITH THE TIDE

No. 5 Florida lost its first game under coach Urban Meyer, a 31-3 rout by No. 15 Alabama. It was the Gators' worst defeat since losing 36-7 to LSU in 2002 and ended Meyer's personal 20-game winning streak at Utah and Florida. A Meyer-coached team had never been held without a touchdown, and Florida hadn't been kept out of the end zone since 1992.

UNEXPECTED OUTBURST

Maryland avoided its first 0-3 start at home since 1993, catching No. 19 Virginia by surprise with a multifaceted offense and winning 45-33. The Terrapins' 570 yards in offense was the most allowed by the Cavaliers since Georgia Tech got 627 in 2000.

JUST LIKE MIKE

Challenged by West Virginia before the game to run the ball, Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick rushed for a career-high 74 yards and a score to lead the third-ranked Hokies past West Virginia 34-17. Vick, younger brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, threw for 177 yards and two more scores.

SHORT-HANDED

Suspension-riddled Ball State was shut out 38-0 by No. 21 Boston College. Fifteen Cardinals were suspended earlier in the week for violating an NCAA extra-benefits rule involving textbooks.

LION TAMER

Princeton beat Columbia 43-3 for its biggest win over the Lions since a 49-0 decision in 1960. The victory was also the Tigers' largest in the Ivy League since a 50-7 triumph over Brown in 1968, and their greatest margin since a 41-0 win over Lafayette in 1995.

TRIBUTE

Truman State and Missouri Southern players gathered before the game to honor John Ware. Ware, 46, died of a heart attack in his office Tuesday. He was in his second year as coach at Missouri Southern following 19 seasons at Truman State, nine as head coach. His Lions beat Truman State 41-17.

INJURIES

Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson left in the second quarter against Kansas State with an apparent foot injury. Peterson, who finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting last year, returned to the sideline in the second half, but did not play. ... Alabama receiver Tyrone Prothro broke his left leg against No. 5 Florida and will likely miss the rest of the season. Prothro landed awkwardly while attempting to catch a pass in the end zone with just under 9 minutes left in the No. 15 Crimson Tide's 31-3 victory.

STREAKING

Second-ranked Texas won its 11th straight road game and 11th straight overall with a 51-20 victory over Missouri. The Longhorns are 4-0 for the fourth time in five seasons. ... No. 17 Wisconsin beat Indiana 41-24 for its 10th straight victory at Camp Randall Stadium and longest home winning streak since reeling off 25 straight from 1900-03, when their opponents included the likes of Hyde Park High School, Milwaukee Medical and the Osteopaths. ... Iowa set a school record with its 21st straight victory at home, beating Illinois 35-7. ... Dayton improved to 5-0 with a 49-17 win over Jacksonville. ... Army dropped its ninth game in a row over two seasons and fifth straight at home, losing 47-13 to Connecticut. ... Lehigh beat Harvard 49-24 to end the nation's longest Division I-AA winning streak at 13 games. ... Buffalo dropped its 20th consecutive road game dating to 2002 with a 31-21 loss to Western Michigan.

BLANKED

No. 12 California shut out Arizona for the second straight year with a 28-0 victory. The Golden Bears, who beat the Wildcats 38-0 last year, are off to their best start since winning their first five games in 1996. ... P.J. Williams set an NCAA Division III record with 278 yards on punt returns, including touchdowns of 86 and 80 yards, as Mary Hardin-Baylor beat Mississippi College 61-0. Williams, who also had a TD reception, broke the mark of 227 punt return yards by John Conroy of Otterbein in 2003. ... Hugh Charles rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns and Colorado shut down Oklahoma State for a 34-0 victory.
