Eagles, Bengals find way to win
When the Philadelphia Eagles' defense can't stop anybody, the offense takes over. When the Cincinnati Bengals' offense can't get going, the defense handles matters.
That was evident Sunday when both teams displayed their resilience in victories.
Philadelphia rallied from 17-0 and a 24-6 deficits to win at Kansas City 37-31 behind Donovan McNabb, who shrugged off abdominal, chest and shin problems to throw for 369 yards and three touchdowns.
"I was just doing whatever I had to help my team win," said McNabb, who found Terrell Owens 11 times for 171 yards and a TD. "Nothing is easy in this game especially when your body is in a position where you feel like can't do what you're used to doing."
The Bengals were used to winning with big offense in their first three games. They moved to 4-0 for the first time since 1988 - the last time they went to the Super Bowl - by beating Houston 16-10, thanks mainly to their defense. Cincinnati had seven sacks, yielded just 128 yards passing to the winless Texans (0-3), and forced a fumble that clinched it.
"Once again our defense made a play for us," said T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who had game highs with eight catches for 105 yards. "I'd say that won the game for us."
At Kansas City, McNabb completed 33 of 48 passes as the Eagles (3-1) scored 28 straight points following a 96-yard kickoff return by Dante Hall that put the Chiefs on top 24-6.The Chiefs (2-2) closed within six points with 1:24 left on Trent Green's 15-yard TD pass to Hall, but the Eagles recovered the onside kick.
At Cincinnati, Shayne Graham's 27-yard field goal with 5:04 left broke a 10-10 tie, and David Carr's fumble with 3:14 sent the Texans to their first 0-3 start in four seasons as an expansion team.Graham made another field goal from 46 yards with 1:10 left, and Carr was sacked as time ran out.
The Chargers (2-2) handed the Patriots (2-2) their first loss at Gillette Stadium in 22 games.Drew Brees threw for two touchdowns, LaDainian Tomlinson ran for two more and Antonio Gates had six catches for 108 yards. The crowd topped the previous NFL record for a regular-season game, when 102,368 fans saw the Los Angeles Rams play the 49ers at the L.A. Coliseum on Nov. 10, 1957.

Harrison caught nine passes for 109 yards and had his 100th TD catch for the visiting Colts (4-0).Manning tied Ron Jaworski with his 116th consecutive start, second among quarterbacks behind Green Bay's Brett Favre. Novak was playing because of an injury to John Hall. His first NFL attempt Sunday was blocked. He actually had to kick the winner twice because the Redskins were called for delay of game on the first try.The Seahawks (2-2) tied it on Darrell Jackson's 6-yard catch with 1:23 remaining. They got the ball back on Kelly Herndon's interception on a deflection. Three plays later, Josh Brown hit the upright from 47 yards.
At Oakland, LaMont Jordan ran for 126 yards and a score, Sebastian Janikowski kicked four field goals and the defense put together a late goal-line stand to lead the Raiders (1-3) past Dallas (2-2).Randy Moss, who had 10 touchdown receptions in five wins in his career against Dallas, had a long catch on Oakland's first drive and finished with four catches for 123 yards.
At Atlanta, with Michael Vick sidelined in the second quarter with a sprained right knee, Warrick Dunn rushed for 126 yards, including his 50th career touchdown on a 37-yard run. The Falcons (3-1) had 285 yards on the ground. The defense made things miserable for Daunte Culpepper, who was sacked nine times, intercepted twice and lost a fumble for the Vikings (1-3).
