5 earn health scholarships
The Butler Health System and the Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary
recently awarded five $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing advanced education in the health care field.
The recipients included Butler High School graduates Christan Green, Aaron Macoskey, Daniel Nebel, Whitney Sullivan and Jennifer Sychak.
Green, the daughter of Daniel and Maryann Green of Butler, is pursuing a degree in nursing at Butler County Community College. A former candy striper at the hospital, she served as the group's recording and corresponding secretary. While in high school, she was active in the Student Council, National Honor Society and in her church youth group.
Macoskey, the son of Eric and Mary Jane Macoskey of Renfrew, is currently enrolled at Saint Francis University and plans to become a physician's assistant. He was active in the Butler High School Varsity Soccer Team, the Northern Steele Soccer Club and the Student Council. He was also named to Who's Who Among American High School Students and has volunteered for Special Olympics.<br></br>
Nebel, the son of David and Denise Nebel of Butler, plans to pursue a degree in psychology at Penn State University. While in high school, he was a member of the National Honor Society, president of the French Club and was active in his church. He also participated in several art shows.<br></br>
Sullivan, the daughter of Steven and Carolyn Sofi of Butler, is attending West Liberty State College to pursue an associate's degree. She plans to become a dental hygienist. While in high school, she was a member of the Golden Tornado Marching Band and received several academic achievement awards.<br></br>
Sychak, the daughter of Robert and Betsy Sychak of Butler, is attending Bradford School and plans to pursue a career in medical assistant management. While in high school, she was a member of the French Club and SADD. She has served as a candy striper at BMH for four years.
