Scoop coming off perfect week of football picks
Am I aptly named or what?
I truly had the scoop last week, correctly predicting the outcome of all 11 football games involving area teams.
My performance earned me an invitation to fly to Las Vegas and become one of those national pigskin prognosticators you see on TV all the time.
Alas, my duties are here and my loyalty remains with my readers.
Besides, flying to Las Vegas? … My wings would get tired.
Here's the scoop on this weekend's action:
North Allegheny at Butler -It's homecoming for the Golden Tornado and they're anxious to snap a three-game losing streak. When North Allegheny comes to town, it's usually a barn-burner and this should be no exception. The Tigers start a bunch of sophomores. Butler went through that last year and will benefit from it this year.BUTLER, 18-11.
Shaler at Seneca Valley -The host Raiders have also dropped three straight games and, like Butler, need a section win to work themselves onto the playoff picture.Seneca Valley can score, but has struggled against the run. Shaler's Wing-T will not be a welcome sight.SHALER, 27-24.
Plum at Knoch -Both teams are banged up and neither will have its leading rusher-receiver available. But the Knights are at home, the Mustangs haven't won a game - and still won't.KNOCH, 21-14.
Neshannock at Mars -Huge game for the Planets in terms of reaching the playoffs. Mars lost a game of similar magnitude to Mohawk last year to close the season. This year, Mars is another year older and another year better.MARS, 25-14.
Karns City at Redbank Valley -The Gremlins controlled the Keystone-Shortway Athletic Conference for a lot of years, but some other teams have since caught up. Redbank is one of those teams.REDBANK, 30-15.
Moniteau at Keystone -The Warriors outscored A-C Valley and Union 88-7 the past two weeks and face Keystone's diversified passing game on the road. Moniteau's power offense and physical play will win out.MONITEAU, 25-11.
Slippery Rock at Greenville -Here's a battle of winless teams - but the Rockets have been a pretty impressive winless team. Their string of heartbreaking losses will end with a heart-stopping victory.SLIPPERY ROCK, 12-9.
California (Pa.) at Slippery Rock University -Two teams coming off lopsided wins last week, but the visiting Vulcans have one of Division II's best running backs in Antoine Bagwell - and The Rock has struggled against teams that can run the football.CALIFORNIA, 36-22.Here are my other selections: Freeport over West Shamokin 25-10, Clarion over Union 55-8, Grove City over Hickory 30-22, Shenango over Summit Academy 28-12 and Grove City College over Bethany, 35-9.Last week:11-0Season:44-13
