This bird feels your pain
I'm feeling some pain this week.
Out of 12 games involving area teams last week, only two - Mars and Grove City - managed to finish on the winning side.
And, yes, I picked both teams to come out on top.
I'd pat myself on the back, but these wings make such a task impossible.
This week could prove another tough one for the locals. Here's how I see it:
Butler at Shaler -Both teams are coming off lopsided section losses to Quad North powers. Both have experience, both are dealing with key injuries. At this point in the season, Butler's offense is a bit better than Shaler's, which will be the difference for the Golden Tornado in a road win.BUTLER, 26-14
North Hills at Seneca Valley -Veteran quarterback Ryan Lehmeier against a struggling Raiders defense? Not a good match-up for the home folks.Seneca Valley will score on the Indians, something its offense hasn't done in recent years, but it won't score enough.NORTH HILLS, 42-25
Keystone Oaks at Knoch -At last, the Knights get to play a home game. My wings have been getting tired flying to their games and back. Look for Knoch's offense to get untracked on its home turf.KNOCH, 25-14
Mars at Laurel -A real test here for the Planets as many experts believe Laurel is the team to beat in the conference. This could turn into a shootout and a nail-biter. The home team rates an edge in such a contest.LAUREL, 20-19
Karns City at Clarion-Limestone -Scott Davis is healthy again for C-L and he gives the opposition fits. He will give the Gremlins fits as well, though Karns City will keep this close until the fourth quarter.CLARION-LIMESTONE, 24-15
Moniteau at A-C Valley -This is very bad timing for the Falcons. Moniteau is 0-2 after dropping two games it should have won. The Warriors will make sure they don't make the same mistake three weeks in a row.MONITEAU, 48-6
Sharon at Slippery Rock -The Rockets stood tall against Reynolds defensively last week, but their offense is struggling to move the ball. Sharon seems to be getting better and will be good enough Friday night.SHARON, 22-11
Kittanning at Freeport -Disappointing loss for the Yellowjackets at Ford City last week. You can almost flip a coin on this one because Kittanning likes to grind it out while Freeport likes to throw it. Both styles will be moderately successful.KITTANNING, 15-14Here are my other selections: Keystone over Union 33-6, Grove City over Reynolds 20-13, Neshannock over Summit Academy 38-9 and Thomas More over Grove City College 19-16.Last week:9-5Season:24-10
