CELEBRATING 100 YEARS
Community Alliance Church sits at its current location on Mercer Road in Center Township. The church began on Mercer Street in 1900 and formally became part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in 1905. The church remained on Mercer Street until May 10, 1964 when it moved to 420 North Main St. and became North Main Street Alliance Church. It remained there until 1975 when the church moved to its current location at 800 Mercer Road. At that time the name Community Alliance Church was chosen because the goal of the church was to have a community outreach, offering the church to be a service to the local community. The first service at this location was held on Oct. 12, 1975.
Corné Becker of the Virginia Beach, Va. campus of Regent University ends his address with a prayer Sunday during the church's 100-year anniversary service, held in the Butler High School auditorium to accommodate all of the church members. The service included worship and praise as well as several video presentations and special performances by Ted Swartz and Lee Eshleman, a comedic theatric duo from Ted & Lee TheaterWorks in Harrisonburg, Va. The church currently has three Sunday morning services at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday school for children, youth and adults is held at 9:30 a.m. There are several special services throughout the week for children, junior and senior high youth as well as adults.
