John G. Shearer

John G. Shearer, 80, of Seybertown in Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong Co., formerly of Kittanning and Pittsburgh, died Tuesday at Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.

Born Aug. 16, 1924, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Horace F. and Emma Park Shearer.

He was a 1942 graduate of Perry High School in Pittsburgh; a 1943 graduate of the Clarkson School of Technology, Potsdam, N.Y.; and received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Northampton County.

Mr. Shearer was a sergeant in the Army's 288th Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II. He campaigned in Central Europe, the Rhineland and GO 33 WD 45. He received an American Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, an European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and a WW II Victory Medal.

He had been a surveyor for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. He also was a project engineer for the Limbach Co. of Pittsburgh and completed the Fisher Body Plant in Lordstown, Ohio, and the Three Rivers Stadium project in Pittsburgh. He was co-owner of the Louden Supply Co., Kittanning.

He was a Presbyterian, He a member of the national fishing club Trout Unlimited and also belonged to the VFW Post 863, the Elks Lodge 203 and the Lions Club, all of Kittanning. He was a member of the American Legion Post 488 of Bradys Bend, where he was post commander from 2000 to 2003 and was active member of the rifle squad.

Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Jean Fought and her husband, Paul E. Fought Jr., of Belle Vernon; a son, John G. Shearer Jr. and his wife, Denise Ann, of Ooltewah, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Kelly Lynn and Adam Mathew Shearer, both of Ooltewah,

His wife, Dorothy Jean Coar Shearer, whom he married June 22, 1949, died March 18, 2003. A brother, Thomas Park Shearer, also preceded him in death.

SHEARER - Friends of John G. Shearer, who died Tuesday Aug. 9, 2005, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at CHARLES B. BUECHELE FUNERAL HOME, 105 Fourth St., East Brady. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Agnes Brady, moderator of First Presbyterian Church of East Brady, officiating. Private burial will be at Allegheny County Memorial Park, Allison Park.American Legion Post 488 will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
