Stanley Ostwinch Jr. of Butler was recently elected for a two-year term as National President of the Postmasters Retired, National Association of Postmasters of the United States. He is the first Pennsylvania member elected to the position.
Otwinch retired in 1992 after serving as postmaster of the Butler Post Office. He also served as postmaster in the Harmony and Greenville post offices and in several other assignments.
Since his retirement, he has served as president of Butler Area Chapter 1296 of the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and currently serves as their secretary-treasurer. He also serves as treasurer of the Pennsylvania Federation of NARFE.
In addition to his activities with the NARFE, he is adjutant of the Michael Kosar Post 778 American Legion, where he established a museum dedicated to all veterans. He presents a historical American Flag program to area schools and organizations and he also helps to organize and host programs for the Legion's veteran memorial ceremonies.
In 2000 he was honored as the Butler County Veteran of the Year.
Ostwinch is active at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Lyndora, has served as an officer at the All Saint Church Camp at Emlenton and is a past national treasurer for the Ukrainian Orthodox League.
He serves on the Board of Directors of the Eastern Orthodox Foundation in Indiana, Pa., and the Steel Valley Center in Homestead.
