Bridge taking shape
Work on the new Main Street Viaduct continues on schedule, the state Department of Transportation said. By Tuesday, the northbound lanes had been connected to the north end of the bridge. Although it may look as if the bridge is off center, when the southbound side is built, the bridge will meet Main Street squarely, PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi said. The bridge is being built in two sections and will be twice the width of the old bridge, with two lanes on each side. When the northbound portion is finished in mid-November, it will be opened to traffic in both directions. Work on the southbound section will then begin. Construction on the bridge should be finished by November 2006.
