7 cut Steelers signed to practice squad
PITTSBURGH - Linebacker Andre Frazier and wide receiver Walter Young were among seven players cut last week by the Pittsburgh Steelers who returned to the team Monday on the practice squad.
Frazier, a rookie free agent from Cincinnati, and Young, who spent last season on the practice squad, were joined by guard Jim Jones, defensive end Shaun Nua, linebacker Dedrick Roper, defensive end Eric Taylor, fullback Zach Tuiasosopo and wide receiver Chris Samp.
All were in Pittsburgh's training camp except Samp, who was in camp with the Eagles and Packers as a rookie free agent.
Nau, a seventh-round pick from Brigham Young, was among two draft picks waived Saturday. The other, fourth-round wide receiver Fred Gibson, chose to sign with the Miami Dolphins practice squad rather than return to Pittsburgh.
Gibson is the first player drafted as high as the fourth round to be cut by the Steelers since 2000 fourth-rounder Danny Farmer, also a wide receiver.
The Steelers also wanted to bring back free agent Ben Claxton, a former Mississippi player and an all-NFL Europe offensive lineman last spring, but he was offered a spot on Atlanta's 53-man roster.
Tuiasosopo, a rookie free agent from Washington, is the son of former Seahawks and 49ers defensive lineman Manu Tuiasosopo and the brother of Raiders backup quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo.
