William and Shirley Martin of Slippery Rock will celebrate 50 years of marriage with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Highland Church Social Hall, 310 Franklin St., Slippery Rock.

The former Shirley Cooper married Martin on Aug. 23, 1955, at Zion Baptist Church in Worth Township.

They have two children, Donald Martin and Barbara Hogg, both of Slippery Rock. They also have five grandchildren.

Martin retired in 1996 from Slippery Rock University after 17 years of service. He also operated a meat processing and frozen food center for 24 years. A veteran of the Army, he served in Korea.

Mrs. Martin is a homemaker.

The couple is active in church, community and fraternal organizations.
