Butler man caught in New York

Teen sought in shooting

A Butler man accused of opening fire at another man outside a city convenience store was captured Monday in Upstate New York after three weeks on the run, authorities said.

Federal marshals caught Junior Allen Meyers, 19, about noon standing on a street in Buffalo, said Butler police Chief Tim Fennell.

Meyers is to be arraigned this morning in Erie County court on fugitive from justice-related charges. He is being held at the Erie County Holding Center in Buffalo pending extradition to Pennsylvania.

Meyers in Butler is charged with attempted homicide for allegedly firing a .25-caliber pistol at Ryan Mullen, 19, of Butler Township early the morning of July 25 in the 7-Eleven parking lot on Hansen Avenue.

Additionally, Meyers, a convicted felon, is charged with aggravated assault and firearms violations

City police pursued Meyers for the past three weeks, searching clues, fielding tips, talking with acquaintances and sharing information with other law enforcement agencies.

A tip received last week paid dividends.

"We had some information that he was in Buffalo staying with an ex-city resident," Fennell said.

Buffalo police referred city police to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force serving the Buffalo area. Butler investigators forwarded mugshots and other paperwork on Meyers' case.

Fennell said members of the U.S. Marshal Service Western District of New York Fugitive Task Force tracked Meyers to a Buffalo street where he was arrested unarmed and without incident.

Marshal service officials were unavailable for comment this morning.

Butler police believed Meyers was possibly armed and considered dangerous after he allegedly fired a pistol at Mullen as Mullen pulled out of the 7-Eleven parking lot about 1:20 a.m.

The bullet hit the tailgate as Mullen sped off in the vehicle. No one was injured.

An ongoing feud between Meyers and Mullen apparently sparked the shooting, authorities said.

Police two days later recovered the gun used in the shooting, following a traffic stop on South Chestnut Street.

Terrance Lemont Clowney, 18, of Butler, a passenger in the car, was arrested after he was found with the pistol.

Clowney admitted he was with Meyers at the time of the shooting, and saw Meyers fire the gun, according to court documents.

He told police that he and Meyers later went to a Lyndora home, where Meyer gave him the pistol, police said.

Clowney, also a convicted felon, faces weapons charges in the case and is in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond.
