Slippery Rock University senior running back/return specialist Josh Kniess has been accorded NCAA Division II Preseason All-America team honors by Don Hansen's Football Gazette.Kniess earned the honor as a return specialist. He ranked second in all of Division II last year with an 18.9-yard punt return average.He also averaged 22.6 yards per return on kickoffs.

Treesdale Golf and Country Club professional Joe Boros of Saxonburg fired a 3-under par 35-34-69 to tie for eighth place after the first round of the 89th annual Open Championship of the Pennsylvania Golf Association at Sunnybrook Golf Club.Bennett Smith of Bakerstown fired a 70, Rob McClellan of Butler (Olde Stonewall) a 71 and John Aubrey Sr. of Butler a 72 to place high among the field of 132.
