John 'Jack' Weckerly
John C. "Jack" Weckerly, 83, of Emlenton died Sunday morning in northern Quebec, Canada, of an accidental drowning while on a fishing excursion with his son and some friends from the local area.
Born Nov. 26, 1921, in Perry Township, Clarion County, he was the son of Quincey C. and Ella Adele Bell Weckerly.
He worked as a bricklayer all of his adult life in Ohio and Pennsylvania and retired from Weckerly Construction Co. in Bruin.
Mr. Weckerly was a Protestant.
During World War II, he served with the Army from November 1942 to November 1945. He was honorably discharged with the rank of private first class and earned the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.
His greatest hobby was fishing, but he also was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.
Surviving are his wife, E. Jean Wolfe Weckerly, whom he married June 8, 1946; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Chris) Bailey of Niles, Ohio; three sons: Larry Weckerly of Emlenton, John R. Weckerly of Ebensburg and Dan Weckerly of Clarion, who was with him on the excursion; and a sister, Bernice Terwilliger of Bonita Springs, Fla. Four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded by three brothers and six sisters.
