Art and Elaine Mathers of Prospect celebrated 40 years of marriage recently.

The former Elaine Butler married Mathers on July 10, 1965, at the former North Main Street Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Butler.

They have a son, Mark Mathers of Bellmawr, N.J.

Mathers retired in 1995 after a 44-year career in military and civilian journalism.

Mrs. Mathers is a homemaker and has worked in several religious and secular assignments.

The couple belongs to First Baptist Church in Butler, where Mathers is a member of the church mission board and Mrs. Mathers was active in the church nurseries and children's ministries. The couple has also been involved in the church's ministry program at Sunnyview Home.
