Martha Stewart Smith
Martha L. Stewart Smith, 82, of 319 Howard St. died at 11:38 a.m. Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Born May 17, 1923, in Butler, she was the daughter of James Howard Stewart and Ora Marie Walters Stewart.
Mrs. Smith had been employed in the housekeeping department at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center for 25 years and retired in 1990.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Asbury Sunday school class. She also belonged to AARP, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was a past member of the CB Rangers.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Sheila) Matson and Mrs. Roger (Cheryl) Tucker, both of Butler; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a step-great-great-grandchild; and two nephews and a grandniece whom she raised as grandchildren. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
As the last surviving member of the Stewart family, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
SMITH - Friends of Martha L. Stewart Smith, who died Saturday, June 11, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will follow at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with her church pastor, the Rev. J. David Panther, officiating.
