The six-time champion came through soaked but unscathed and kept his overall lead in the three-week race's sixth stage from Troyes to Nancy in eastern France.
Armstrong was 32nd and finished alongside two teammates.
One of his main challengers, Alexandre Vinokourov of Kazakhstan, took 19 seconds off the Texan's lead by surging toward the end to place second. He still trails Armstrong by 62 seconds overall.
Lorenzo Bernucci, a 25-year-old Italian racing his first Tour, won the stage.
MILWAUKEE - Michael Redd agreed to re-sign with the Milwaukee Bucks and play alongside No. 1 draft pick Andrew Bogut and T.J. Ford rather than return to his home state of Ohio to serve as LeBron James' sidekick.Redd accepted Milwaukee's six-year offer for between $90 million and $96 million, his agent, Kevin Poston, told The Associated Press. The Cleveland Cavaliers offered $70 million over five years, the most they could offer.
CHICAGO - Trent Yawney was hired to be the new coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, replacing Brian Sutter, who was let go last month.Yawney, 39, coached the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate in Norfolk, Va., the past five years and led the Admirals to five straight playoff appearances.The Blackhawks were 91-118-37 in three seasons under Sutter. Chicago missed the playoffs in six of seven years before the lockout that wiped out the entire 2004-05 NHL season.
LUSS, Scotland - Phil Mickelson shot a 4-under 67 in the Scottish Open, leaving him three strokes behind first-round leaders Angel Cabrera and Stuart Little in the final event before the British Open next week at St. Andrews.Lee Westwood was in a group at 65, and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman was another stroke back at 66.
SYLVANIA, Ohio - U.S. Women's Open champion Birdie Kim shot a 6-under 65 - her LPGA Tour best - for a share of the first-round lead with Becky Morgan in the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic.Angela Stanford and Gloria Park opened with 67s, and defending champion Meg Mallon, Young Kim and Jeong Jang had 68s on the Highland Meadows course.Brittany Lang shot a 69 in her pro debut, and 17-year-old Morgan Pressel had a 71. Lang and Pressel tied for second in the U.S. Women's Open.
