Chris Carpenter, Cardinals, struck out seven and allowed only one run on three hits over eight innings to earn his 13th victory in St. Louis' 2-1 win over Arizona.

David Ortiz, Red Sox, homered and drove in three runs in Boston's 7-4 win over Texas.

Garret Anderson, Angels, had two hits, including a three-run homer, and threw out the potential tying run at home in the eighth inning of Los Angeles' 7-6 win over Minnesota.

Ted Lilly and Vernon Wells, Blue Jays. Lilly pitched seven innings and Wells hit a three-run homer to lead Toronto over Oakland 8-0.

Antonio Perez, Dodgers, went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and a career-high five RBIs to lead Los Angeles past Colorado 9-5.

ALL-STARS

Chicago White Sox left fielder Scott Podsednik and Houston right-hander Roy Oswalt earned the final spots on the All-Star teams in Internet fan voting completed Wednesday. This is the first All-Star appearance for both players.

MILESTONES

Houston second baseman Craig Biggio moved past Roberto Alomar into 50th place on the career hits list in a 5-4 win over San Diego on Wednesday night. ... New York Mets left-hander Tom Glavine earned his 268th win, tying Jim Palmer for 31st on the career list in a 5-3 victory over Washington. ... St. Louis closer Jason Isringhausen earned his 200th career save in a 2-1 win over Arizona.

RECORDS

Florida pitchers retired 28 consecutive batters from the third inning on and set a team record with 22 strikeouts in a 12-inning, 5-4 victory over Milwaukee on Wednesday night. A.J. Burnett matched his career high and the individual club record with 14 strikeouts in only six innings. The Marlins' team record for a nine-inning game is 17 strikeouts against Montreal on July 21, 2002. Florida's previous record for an extra-inning game was 21, set in 16 innings against Houston on Aug. 20, 1999.
