The annual Butler Eagle Amateur Open golf tournament takes place Aug. 21 at Oakview Golf Club in Slippery Rock.

The event is an 18-hole stroke play tournament and has shotgun starts at 7:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.

Four flights comprise the tournament field. The championship flight is for golfers with a 0-to-6 handicap. First flight is for handicaps 7-to-12, second flight for handicaps 13-to-17 and third flight for handicaps 18 and higher.

The senior division - for which a low-net award will be given - is for ages 50 and over.

This month and up to the tournament, Oakview will offer a special rate for weekday practice rounds for golfers entered in the tournament.

The second annual Butler County Community College Pioneer Golf Outing was held Friday at the Oakview Country Club in Slippery Rock.Proceeds from the event help support the BC3 Alumni Association and Athletic programs. Prizes were awarded for the top three teams and the mixed team with the best score.First-place team winners were Don Knight, Duane Lindey, Robert McFeaters and Larry Young.Second-place team winners were Bill Miller, Mike Franko, Jan Kasnevich and Justin Kerr.Third-place team winners were Chuck Miller, Rege Schnur, David Montgomery and Mike Buzzinotti.The best mixed team winners were Keith Frndak, Charlene Kline, Brian Hortert and Martin Trettel.The 2006 Pioneer Golf Outing already is being planned for June 2, 2005, at the Oakview Golf Club.

Registration is now open for a Junior Golf league at 9 a.m. every Tuesday for eight weeks beginning June 7 through July 26 at Aubrey's Dubbs Dred Golf Course.There will also be a four-day golf school from June 8-9 and 16-17 at the course, taught by PGA professional John Aubrey Sr.For details, call 724-285-7294.

Myron Cope's annual charity golf tournament, slated for June 20 at Montour Heights Country Club, has combined with the Tri-State PGA Invitational.John Mazza, Montour Heights club pro, expects 22 area pros to compete, one with each scrambling foursome. Joe Boros and Wanda McGarry of Treesdale Golf & Country Club fired a par on the first hole of a sudden death playoff to win the Tri-State Section PGA event at the Rolling Hills Country Club in McMurray Wednesday.Using the Chapman Scoring Method, the duo carded a 35-34-69 to tie Matt Gotto and Jordan Craig in the low gross division on the par-72 course. They had tied Matt Gotto and Jordan Craig of Pleasant Valley Country Club before winning the playoff.

The second annual PH Cure Golf Outing will be held at noon Aug. 27 at Pheasant Ridge Golf Club.The day includes golf, lunch, dinner, skill prizes, raffle prizes and an auction, with 100 percent of all net proceeds going to Pulmonary Hypertension research.PH is a rare and potentially life threatening disease that causes high blood pressure in the lungs. Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Louis Lipps will be the celebrity golfer as St. Barnabas Health System hosts its 18th Charitable Golf Open Monday at the Butler Country Club.Registration fee is $325 per player for the morning field, which tees off at 7:45 a.m., and $375 per player for the afternoon field, which begins at 12:45 p.m. Cost includes 18 holes of golf, cart, beverages and unlimited range balls. Morning session golfers receive a buffet breakfast and gourmet lunch; afternoon golfers receive a buffet lunch.All are invited to attend a cocktail hour and awards dinner. The United States Golf Association has awarded the Woodlands Foundation of Wexford a $35,000 grant, which will help support the golf component at the "No Handicap" Golf Course.The grant was scheduled to be presented Friday in conjunction with the "First Swing" Clinic, which is designed to teach the basics of golf to individuals with disabilities.

HealthQuest Medical Associates will host the American Cancer Society Golf Event, June 11 at Connoquenessing Country Club in Ellwood City.The golf package is $125 per golfer ($85 for members) and includes a T-shirt, 18 holes of golf, cart, box lunch, beverages at the turn, buffet dinner, prizes and one raffle ticket.The dinner package is $25 per person and includes buffet dinner and non-alcoholic beverages. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.Raffle tickets are $2 each and will be available the day of the outing. Lenape Heights Golf Course in Ford City will host the annual Armstrong County Chamber of Commerce's Golf Outing June 20.It will be a foursome scramble tournament. The Butler County Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 50th annual Golf Outing June 16 at Lake Arthur Country Club.The outing is the Chamber's largest networking and fund-raising event of the season. Hiland Golf Course will host the "Best Dress" Golf Tournament Aug. 14. Michelle Wie of Honolulu, Hawaii, 2003 USGA Women's Amateur Public Links champion, heads a field of 82 competing for two qualifying spots in the USGA Amateur Public Oinks Sectional at Cedarbrook Golf Course's Gold Course June 14 in Belle Vernon.The qualifiers advance to the championship at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio, July 11-16.

Six winners were crowned champions at the Kings Pepsi Tri-State PGA Junior Golf Tournament Wednesday at Mt.
