Slippery Rock University graduate Sarah Arsenault scored the Steel City Sparks' first goal in a 2-0 victory over the Massachusetts Stingers Saturday at Ambridge Stadium.

The win moved the Sparks to first place in the Eastern Division. Steel City returns to action June 18 against the Massachusetts Aztecs at Pine-Richland Stadium.

Seton Hill University senior tennis player Jessica Hamilton, a graduate of Seneca Valley, was named an NAIA Scholar Athlete.Hamilton, a history major, had to maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average. The women's tennis team was named a Scholar Team, boasting a 3.71 GPA, which was sixth best in the country.

Seneca Valley swimming standout Mandie Huffman will continue her academic and athletic careers at Westminster College.Huffman swam the breaststroke on the Raiders' 200-yard medley relay team that won the state Class AAA championship last March.

Grove City College senior Christine Rummel earned CoSIDA College Division Second-Team Academic All-District II honors for women's track and field and cross country.Rummel, a graduate of Knoch High School, won both the 100- and 400-meter hurdles at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships April 30 and helped the Wolverines win their seventh consecutive PAC crown.Rummel graduated with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and secondary education.The Wolverines' Elisa Pedersen and Cara Pierce also earned all-district honors.

A brief about Second Annual Butler County Community College Pioneer Golf Outing on Monday's golf page contained the wrong date.
