It was a case of better late than never for the Knoch girls softball team Wednesday.

Tiffany Allen's one-out single scored Stephanie Fincher with the deciding run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Knights a 7-6 victory over Shenango - Knoch's first win of the season after 14 straight losses.

The game also marked the season finale for the Knights.

Christina Rickerd had three singles for Knoch, including a hit to open the seventh. Fincher reached on a fielder's choice, moved to third on Kirsten Brant's single and scored on Allen's hit.

Lizz King added two singles for Knoch and Fincher was the winning pitcher, striking out five.

Haley Callihan and Shannon Christie had three hits each and Karns City scored 11 runs in the first inning of a 16-0 triumph over winless A-C Valley. The Gremlins will qualify for the District 9 playoffs if they win their season finale Tuesday at Clarion-Limestone.

Monica Glomb struck out 13, but Mars dropped its regular season finale to Hampton, 1-0, in 10 innings. The Planets tied Highlands for the section title.

Krista Chiappini struck out 10 and pitched a five-hit shutout as Grove City blanked Jamestown, 12-0.
