Army Pvt.

Jason Waugaman has graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.He is the son of Roy and Barbara Waugaman of Evans City and is a 1999 graduate of Seneca Valley High School.Army Pfc.

Richard Herold has graduated from basic training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.Herold is the son of Marlene Herold of Butler and is a 2000 graduate of Slippery Rock High School.Army National Guard Spec.

Timothy Taylor has graduated from basic training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.Taylor is the son of Debra Paynter of Butler.He graduated in 1997 from South Park High School, Allegheny County, and received a bachelor's degree from Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, Mass., in 2001.Navy Petty Officer 1st Class

Kirby Reddinger, son of Diane Reddinger of Mars and Gerald Reddinger of Mars, and the reserve sailors of Naval Expeditionary Logistics Support Force Forward Group Oscar, based out of Williamsburg, Va., currently are in the middle of a routine scheduled deployment to Camp Patriot, Kuwait.Reddinger is a 1983 graduate of Bucksport Senior High School, Bucksport, Maine, and joined the Navy in February 1985.

During May, Edward Heeter Sr., representative of the Governor's Veterans Outreach and Assistance Center, will have office hours at the Butler Armory, 250 Kreiss Road, Room 113, Butler, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dates and times are subject to change. Veterans who need assistance at times other than the scheduled visits can call the center at 800-442-6815 or 724-837-7988 for more information.The GVOAC also has information available on the following.A new medal is available if you served in Korea after the Korean War.The GVOAC has information available on Tricare for Life for World War II veterans who did not graduate with the high school class.Nursing homes needing assistance helping veteran clients with paperwork or a veteran needing nursing home services should contact the GVOAC.The VA may have new benefits available for ex-POWs or the widow of an ex-POW.Information is available regarding the VA's new rules for Vietnam veterans with diabetes.The center will assist veterans in their enrollment with the veteran's administration as a result of the high cost of prescription drugs.All members of the Armed Forces who honorably served during the Cold War are eligible to receive a certificate honoring them for their part in winning the Cold War. Applications are now being accepted from those who honorably served during the period of Sept. 2, 1945, to Dec. 26, 1991.For more information on any of the above, contact the GVOAC at 800-442-6815 or 724-837-7988.
