ADAMS TWP - It might have taken the Mars offense a while to get on track, but once it did, there was no stopping it.

The Planets scored four runs in the fourth inning and six runs in the fifth to turn a once-close game into an 11-1, five-inning rout of Butler in an interclassification clash Friday.

Leading 5-1 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Planets received three consecutive singles to open the frame from Brie Berkopec, Monica Glomb and Kristin Scheller.

After two outs, the hit parade continued with Katy Broskey, Amanda Roche (triple), Amanda Charles and Hannah Taggart each finding a hole in Butler's defense.

Taggart's base hit drove home Charles with run No. 11, ending the game via the mercy rule.

"Anybody in our lineup can contribute on a given day," said Mars coach Michele Goodworth. "And that's including the bottom third of our order."

Charles, Taggart, Berkopec and Glomb each had two hits in the win while Broskey scored two runs and drove in three.

Butler pitcher Kelly Reges suffered the loss after pitching the entire game, striking out two and walking one.

She was able to keep the game close for three innings, but received just one run of support.

Butler collected five hits off of Glomb, with Megan Shingleton scoring on Jenn Sychak's base hit in the top of the second inning to tie the game.

Glomb entered the contest averaging more one strikeout per inning, but fanned just two against Butler.

"I was impressed with the way the girls came out swinging today," said Butler coach Tanya Schnur. "We were able to cut down on the strikeouts."
