Academic team has 2 from BC3

Butler County Community College recently honored students Karan Bland of Butler and Sara Stitt of Petrolia as members of the All-Pennsylvania Academic Team.

The team is compiled of students from all community colleges in the state of Pennsylvania.

Chosen based on academic achievement, both students were recognized during an awards dinner in Hershey and received full two-year scholarships to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education University of their choice.

Bland will graduate from BC3 in May with an associate's degree in Elementary Education. While at the college, she has been named to the President's List, the Dean's List, the National Dean's List and Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges.

She is also the recipient of the Vivian Marie Yossa Memorial Scholarship, the Daniel Brumbaugh Memorial Scholarship and the Butler County Association of School Retirees Scholarship.

Bland has been active in the Phi Theta Kappa honorary for community colleges and the ACE Tutoring Center. She also volunteers at her church, Center Township Elementary School, and at the Taco Talk Spanish preschool program at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.

She plans to complete a degree in elementary and special education at Slippery Rock University.

Stitt will earn an associates degree in science from BC3 in May.While at the college, she has maintained a 4.0 grade point average, participated in Campus Crusade for Christ and the Phi Theta Kappa honorary, and has been named to the President's List and the National Dean's List.The recipient of the Waldenmeyer and Jeremiah and Jeanette Sutton Scholarships, she is active in the North Washington United Presbyterian Church.Stitt plans to attend Clarion University and pursue a bachelor's degree in accounting.
