Vinca sparks Warriors to 5-4 victory
Moniteau's Sara Vinca capped an impressive game with a game-winning hit to drive home Jenna Beatty in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 5-4 softball victory over Cranberry Tuesday.
Vinca had a home run, a double, a single and four RBI and pitched a three-hitter. Teammate Laken Burk had a double, a triple and scored two runs.
Cranberry scored a run in the top of the seventh to tie the game before the Warriors pulled out the game to stay unbeaten in the KSAC (5-0).
In other action:
Shannon Christie and Marissa Evankovich each homered for Karns City, but the Gremlins lost a 15-14 shootout at Keystone.
Karns City outhit the Panthers 21-15 in the game.

Butler senior Ike Backstrom finished in third place at the WPIAL Section 2-AAA Tournament, held Monday and Tuesday at North Allegheny High School.The top three finishers move on to the WPIAL Class AAA championships, to be held next Monday and Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.A No. 4 seed, Backstrom received a first-round bye before defeating Hampton's Eric Fisher in the quarterfinals 10-4 (pro set format).Backstrom then dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to the No. 1 seed, North Allegheny's Zach Scrupka, in the semifinals before taking third place when North Hills' Steve Herchko could not compete due to an illness.Also competing for the Golden Tornado, Andrew Thomspon won a first-round match against Shaler's J.T. Lytle (10-1), but was eliminated by Herchko in the quarterfinals by an identical 10-1 score.
Butler 3, Pine-Richland 0 -Ricky Gonzalez had 12 kills and Chris Erdos six aces as the Tornado blanked the Rams 25-9, 25-21, 25-21 on Tuesday.The junior varsity team won 25-6, 25-18.Butler (5-0, 3-0) plays Thursday at North Allegheny.
