John and Janice Bowman of Butler celebrated 50 years of marriage with a family dinner at the Springfield Inn in Mars.

The former Janice Shipley married Bowman on April 8, 1955 in Winchester, Va.

They have three children, Derek Bowman and Michelle Bowman, both of Butler, and Jennifer Kane of Scottsville, Va. A son, Craig Brown, is deceased.

They also have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Bowman is retired. He enjoys photography, flea markets and walking.

Mrs. Bowman works as a central sterile technician at Butler Memorial Hospital. She enjoys gardening, doll collecting and caring for her pets.

The couple also enjoys traveling together.
