An Oct. 15 wedding is being planned by Katherine Friend and Wesley Hazlett, both of Virginia Beach, Va.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Raymond Friend of Chicora and Linda Griffin of Prospect. Parents of the prospective-bridegroom are George Hazlett of Matthews, N.C., and Barbara Brohm of Waxhaw, N.C.

The bride-elect is a 1992 graduate of Slippery Rock High School and a 1998 graduate of the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks. She works as a captain for Piedmont Airlines, USAirways Express.

Her fiancé is a 1999 graduate of Parkwood High School and a graduate of the Portsmouth (Va.) Fire Academy. A veteran of the Coast Guard, discharged in 2004, he is a member of Portsmouth Fire Station 1.
