Pitchers lead the way for the Rock

Sophomore right-hander Derek Blyzwick and senior left-hander Jeremy Becker turned in clutch pitching performances as the Slippery Rock University baseball team swept Shepherd (W.Va) College 3-0, 2-1 in a doubleheader at Jack Critchfield Park Wednesday.

Blyzwick scattered five hits, struck out three and walked three in a complete-game win in the first game. He was the first Rock pitcher to toss a shutout this season.

Becker allowed just one earned run on four hits. He fanned five and walked two in the first five innings to pick up his second win of the season.

Knoch graduate Chase Rowe went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the first game for The Rock, which is ranked sixth in the Collegiate Baseball national poll and seventh in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America national poll.
