Mangola's homer helps SV win softball opener

Tina Mangola hit a home run and freshman Courtney Grootegoed had two singles as the Seneca Valley High softball team opened the season with a 2-0 win over Hempfield Tuesday.

Megan Wise got the win, scattering five singles over seven innings. She didn't strike out a batter, but walked just one for the shutout.

In other action:

Freeport used a 16-hit attack, including three by Bethany Gent, to roll past Knoch 14-3 in five innings.
