PITTSBURGH - Offensive tackle and unrestricted free agent Barrett Brooks re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday.Brooks, entering his 11th season, first signed with the Steelers in 2003. He played in five games last season as a backup lineman.Brooks was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1995 and also has played for the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.He is the second unrestricted free agent to re-sign with the Steelers this year. Cornerback Willie Williams signed a two-year contract with the team earlier this month.
Patrick and Stephanie O'Toole of Butler will be competing at the Eastern Short Course Swimming Championships March 30 through April 1 at Glouster Technical Institute in Sewell, N.J.The duo qualified at U.S. Swimming's Allegheny Mountain sectionals, which are from September through March.Patrick, 14, will take part in the 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle events. Stephanie, 10, will compete in the 100 IM, the 50 and 100 breaststroke and 50 and 500 freestyle.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Bruce Pearl, who led Wisconsin-Milwaukee on a surprising run through the NCAA tournament, was introduced as Tennessee's new basketball coach.Pearl took 12th-seeded Wisconsin-Milwaukee to the round of 16 this year for the first time in the program's 109-year history.Tennessee failed to make the NCAA tournament in four years under coach Buzz Peterson, fired March 13 after a 14-17 season. Pearl is Tennessee's sixth coach in 16 years.
