William J. 'Bill' Smith
William Jacob "Bill" Smith, 79, of 504 W. Pearl St. died at 5:45 a.m. Sunday at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born in Tyrell, Ohio, Feb. 28, 1925, he was the son of John Henry and Mary Evelyn Boyle Smith.
He had been a foreman in the machine shop at Pullman Standard for 30 years and worked at Superior Auto Parts after retiring from Pullman.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church.
He served in the Army during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing camping and watching sports on TV. He also enjoyed bowling and belonged to the Businessmen's and the Family Bowlaway Couples leagues.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Connie) Cornibe and Mrs. Edward (Cindy) Hamil, both of Butler, and Evelyn Smith of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; a niece; and nephew.
His wife, Esther Jane Smith, died Nov. 16, 2003. A daughter preceded him in death.
