Snack-N-Pack
Since it first opened on July 19, 1989, Snack-N-Pack has been a family affair. Original owners Karen, James, Kevin and Susan O'Donnell have all played major roles in the success of the restaurant that has become a Butler tradition.
Starting with a staff of 10 and a limited menu, it has grown to include two stores. Karen owns and operates the Jefferson Street location while Kevin's wife, Daneen, owns and operates the Alameda Plaza location in Butler Township. The two stores employ a staff of more than 70 and a full-service menu for eat-in or takeout dinners.
Having been born and raised in Butler, the brothers and sisters knew their town needed an eating establishment that appealed to all members of the family.
Thus, Snack-N-Pack was born on Jefferson Street. Much of the original menu was planned by the late brother James, who loved to cook. A popular sandwich was the Jim's Delight. Another sandwich that became a big hit was the steak wedge, Karen's Way.
Longtime employee and pepperoni ball maker "Aunt Lorraine" Laconi contributed her own homemade sweet and sour dressing.
As word spread about the good food and great service, Karen, Kevin and Susan saw the need to open another store.
On July 29, 1996, Snack-N-Pack opened the second restaurant in Alameda Plaza.
While the downtown location was popular with the theater goers, art organizations and sports leagues, the new store's expanded parking and closeness to shopping and schools made it a prime spot to promote sporting events.
In addition to being a popular eating and meeting spot, Snack-N-Pack is also active in the community. Snack-N-Pack is an annual fund-drive participant in several charities, including Multiple Sclerosis Service Society, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Butler County, Muscular Dystrophy Association and Lifesteps.
The two stores offer more than 200 packages of carryout beer. A new menu as of 2005 includes a large selection of homemade soup, salads, specialty sandwiches, wedges, heroes, burgers and munchies. All menu items are available to eat in or take out.
The downtown location features three televisions to watch all your favorite events.
During the summer you can enjoy Bike Night every Monday at the Alameda location.
