Ned P. Grinder

Ned P. Grinder, 80, of Zelienople died Saturday at Passavant Retirement & Health Center, Zelienople.

Born Nov. 18, 1924, in Putneyville, Armstrong County, he was the son of Ralph and Edna Putney Grinder.

Mr. Grinder, a graduate of Kittanning High School, retired from Robinson Industries after 44 years of service. He began as a welder on the shop floor and retired as a field service manager in December 1989.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Zelienople. He was a member of the Zelienople Park Board since 1970 and also belonged to the Zelienople Cemetery Board, Seneca Valley Quarterback Club and was a charter member of the Zelienople Historical Society.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a 50-year member of the Zelienople-Harmony Sportsman Club, where he had served on the board of directors.

He is survived by a son, Nath P. Grinder and his wife, Diane, of Zelienople; a daughter, Nedra Dee Sutch and her husband, Douglas, of Evans City; three grandchildren, Alyssa Dee Harris and her husband, Thad, of Greensboro, N.C., Brett D. Sutch of Alexandria, Va., and Savanna L. Grinder of Zelienople; and a great-grandson, Cohen Michael Harris. A brother and a sister, John Grinder and Joanne "Judy" Jacklin, both of New Bethlehem; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

His wife, Ruth McClelland Grinder, whom he married May 1, 1948, died Jan. 20, 2004. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Smith; and a brother, Newell Grinder.

GRINDER - Friends of Ned P. Grinder, who died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. William Brewer officiating. (Everyone is to meet at the church).
