Malecky wins 800 meters at coaches meet
Butler's Amanda Malecky won the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 24.30 seconds Saturday during the Tri-State Track Coaches Association's championship indoor meet at Robert Morris University.
The Golden Tornado placed third in the overall team competition with 53 points.
Sarah Thiebaud placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 2 inches. Kendall Butch was second in the pole vault at 11-7.
Butler's 3,200-meter relay team of Tess Crispin, Amanda Bresnehan, Jess Tomsey and Malecky also placed second.
Thiebaud was third in the high jump at 5-2, Emily Chiappini was fourth in the pole vault at 10-1 and Bresnehan was fourth in the 800 at 2:29.0.
Butch was sixth in the high jump at 5-0.
Ten Butler athletes have qualified to participate in the state indoor track championships Saturday at Penn State University.
Boys qualifiers include the 3,200-meter relay team of Josh Cable, Chris Henry, James Rogerson and John Strutt, Nolan Brink in the shot put and Strutt in the 800 meters.
Girls qualifiers include Butch and Chiappini in the pole vault, Malecky in the 800 meters, Thiebaud in the high jump and triple jump and Lea Renwick in the 55 meters.
