Grove City College freshman forward Rachel McCoy, was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
McCoy averaged 16.5 points, 10 rebounds and 4.5 assists in Grove City wins over Waynesburg (74-63) and Washington & Jefferson (85-83 in double OT).
The victories lifted Grove City into a tie for first place in the conference.
Pete Bistransin, a 1946 Butler High School graduate now living in Greenville, will be inducted into the Thiel College Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday.Bistransin is a 1952 Thiel graduate who lettered four years in football and once in swimming. He played offensive and defensive line and was a member of the Tomcats' 7-0 team of 1950 that played in the Tangerine Bowl.Bistransin was inducted into the Butler Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.
Portersville Christian School scored a pair of basketball wins over East Liverpool (Ohio) Christian School Tuesday night.Aaron Kniess scored 15 points while Justin McCandless added 11 points, seven assists and six steals in the boys' 62-52 triumph.Josh Aikens scored 11 points for PCS with Jesse Hogan contributing 10 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Mike Cornell scored 21 for East Liverpool.Dana Langely scored 12 points in the girls' 44-21 victory. Brett Schmidtke added 10 points and seven rebounds with Amber Thompson getting nine points and eight rebounds.Bekah Davidson scored nine points for East Liverpool.
