Violet May Kelly Smith
Violet May Allen Kelly Smith, 99, formerly of Slippery Rock, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Grove City, after a short illness. She was a resident of Orchard Manor for the past seven years.
Born in New Castle, May 13, 1905, she was the daughter of Milton Emerson Allen and Floy Hall Allen.
She had been a practical nurse and a homemaker and was a former member of the St. John's Methodist Church in Hallston. She was an avid piano and organ player.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy M. Shaffer Jones of Harrisville and Mrs. Floy May McCoy of Slippery Rock; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several great–great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. "Ace" Smith, who died Dec. 2, 1992; and by her first husband, George D. Kelly, who died in April 1974. She also was preceded in death a sister, a son and two grandsons.
SMITH - Friends of Violet May Allen Kelly Smith, who died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Methodist Church in Hallston. Services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Ealy, church pastor, and the Rev. Jack Patterson, retired pastor and chaplain at Orchard Manor, officiating. Burial will be at West Sunbury Union Cemetery.Arrangements are being handled by SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Slippery Rock.
