SLIPPERY ROCK -
Marine Lance Cpl. Harry J. Clarke of Slippery Rock was wounded in Ramadi, Iraq, in early January when a bomb detonated near his armored vehicle.Clarke, 22, was standing outside of the vehicle when the explosion occurred a short distance from him. He got shrapnel in his left shoulder and leg.He is assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Division Motor Transportation, a reserve unit out of Ebensburg. Clarke has been serving in Iraq since August.He is the son of Barbara Craig, who lives in Forrestville.Clarke received a Purple Heart and is expected to return home in March.---
Sr. Airman Nicholas Gilson has been awarded the Financial Management Airman of the Year award by the Air Force Reserve Command.He is the son of Scott and Nancy Gilson of Slippery Rock.Gilson is stationed at Willow Grove Air Reserve Station near Philadelphia and is employed by the Air Force Reserve as a quality assurance manager/air reserve technicianHe is a member of American Legion Post 117 of Butler.---
Anthony Green, son of Linus and Judy Green of Butler Township, entered the Air Force delayed entry program on July 29 and shipped to basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, on Jan. 25.He is a 2004 graduate of Butler High School.---
Navy Fireman Matthew Dunlap, Navy Midshipman Michael T. McHugh and Navy Chief Petty Officer Gary Noblit and their fellow shipmates recently completed a series of sea trials while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.Dunlapis the son of Mark Dunlap of Portersville and Virginia Dunlap of Virginia Beach, Va. He joined the Navy in September 2003.McHugh, son of Kathryn and Thomas McHugh of Glenshaw, is a 2003 graduate of Shaler High School and joined the Navy in July 2003.Noblit is the son of Joanne and Loyal Noblit of West Sunbury. He is a 1981 graduate of Moniteau High School.
