John 'Jay' Pawk

John "Jay" Pawk, 94, formerly of Butler, died Tuesday at Chester County Hospital in West Chester, where he lived for the past five years.

Born in Butler, Dec. 23, 1910, he was a son of Harry and Pearl Petrosky Pawk.

For more than 40 years, he had worked at the Lyndora Hotel.

Mr. Pawk, a lifelong athlete, had played professional basketball during the 1930s for the former Warren (Pa.) Penns team. He also had been a well-known local bowler and an avid scratch golfer.

Surviving are a son, John A. Pawk of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; a brother, Steve Pawk of Butler; a granddaughter; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Louise Lucas Pawk, who died Dec. 18, 1991. He also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

PAWK - Friends of John "Jay" Pawk, who died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. A parastas service and funeral blessing will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Douglas Lorence, pastor of St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church of Lyndora, will officiate.
