Fourth quarter rally lifts Planets

Knoch might have won the section, but Mars got the last word as both prepare for the WPIAL playoffs.

The Planets received 25 points from Charlie Jaicks and used a fourth-quarter rally to beat the Knights 67-62 in high school boys basketball Friday night.

Knoch (18-4, 10-2) was in control for most of the game, but Mars (17-6, 9-3) caught fire in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Knights 21-11.

Jaicks had 10 points in the final period and Tim Frye added seven of his 18 in the final frame. Jaicks hit six 3-pointers in the contest.

Jordan Shoop scored 18 points and Ryan Hollihan added 16 to pace Knoch.

Adam Milanovich added 12 points and 16 rebounds for Union, which can wrap up sole possession of the KSAC title with a win against Redbank Valley Tuesday.

Slippery Rock dropped a pair of meets to Franklin Thursday with the girls (3-7) losing a 72-59 decision and the boys losing a 56-47 decision.Jared Mack won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke for the boys (1-9) while Robert Whitt won the 100 breaststroke for the Rockets.
