Roland L. Snow

Roland L. Snow, 75, of Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County, died Friday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Born April 16, 1929, in Bradys Bend, he was the son of Howard and Sarah Kamerer Snow.

He was a machine builder for International Staple and Machine in East Butler for more than 20 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served from Feb. 1, 1951, to Feb. 1, 1971. He retired as a staff sergeant.

He served in the 479th Civil Engineering Squadron and the 814th Civil Engineering Squadron. He was active during both the Vietnam and Korean wars.

He served a tour of duty in Japan, a tour of duty in Lybia and two tours of duty in England. He was a metal specialist trained in heat treatment of ferrous and non-ferrous metals at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois.

Mr. Snow also was a metal processor specialist, boiler maker and welder in the Air Force.

He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Metal with a Bronze Service Star, an Air Force Longevity Service Award with five Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters and a good Conduct Medal with four Bronze Lapel pins.

Mr. Snow was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, East Brady, where he was currently an elder. He served on the grounds and means committee of the church and was a member of the church Session, which delivered food and clothing for the church to the Haven in Kittanning.

He was a member of the Retired Enlistment Association and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Snow of Bradys Bend, whom he married May 18, 1963.

Also surviving are a daughter, Shelly Aughton of Sugarcreek Township; three sons, Thomas Snow of Oakmont, Brian Snow of Sandy, Utah and Donald Snow of Ashville, N.C.; three sisters, Genevieve Dolnosich of Mentor, Ohio, Marilyn Kusick and Vonda Rodgers, both of Bradys Bend; six grandchildren, Shannon Hartle of Chicora, Rikkie Pennington of Butler, Jennifer Snow of Glendale, Ariz., Breanna Snow of Sandy, Utah, Xandria White of Sandy, Utah, and Xavier White of Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Seth Hartle and Celeste Hartle, both of Chicora, and Isabelle Vogel of Butler.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth, Russell, Alvin and James Snow; two sisters, Ruth King and Margetta McClaine; and a granddaughter, Shannon Lawson.

SNOW - Friends of Roland L. Snow, who died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday atCHARLES BUECHELE FUNERAL HOME, 105 Fourth St., East Brady. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in East Brady, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. The Rev. Joseph Kiewra, interim pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Bradys Bend Cemetery, Bradys Bend.The Armstrong County American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors in the cemetery.
