Pine-Richland pins Butler wrestlers

Butler's varsity wrestling team isn't exactly entering the WPIAL team playoffs on a positive note.

Golden Tornado wrestlers were pinned seven times in a 48-15 loss at Pine-Richland Wednesday night.

"That hasn't happened to us all year," Butler coach Scott Stoner said. "We didn't wrestle with a whole lot of intensity tonight.

"We didn't do the things you have to do to stay competitive. We regressed a bit."

Butler (11-3, 6-2) finished third in its section and likely will draw a pigtail match and begin the WPIAL team playoffs on the road Monday night.

Tornado freshman Ian McLaughlin (18-2) recorded a 6-2 decision over Ryan McGarrity (17-2) at 119 pounds.

Stew Rapone, Tom Hollerman, Josh Coburn and David Coburn also won by decision for Butler.
