Karns City graduate Ariel Venesky, a freshman guard on the Thiel College women's basketball team, scored 13 points in a recent 71-48 victory over Waynesburg.

Venesky sank all five of her field goal attempts.

Butler graduate Melanie Buczko, a sophomore pole vaulter for the Bucknell University women's track and field team, was named Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week.Buczko won the Bucknell Heptagonal meet with a pole vault of 12 feet, 11½ inches to meet the NCAA provisional qualifying standard. She also set a school and facility record with that height.Buczko is the league's defending indoor champion in the pole vault and the only female athlete in the league to hit a provisional standard this season.

Slippery Rock University senior Kristen Jones was named PSAC Female Field Athlete of the Week.Jones won the long jump and placed third in the triple jump at the Slippery Rock Invitational. Her long jump of 18 feet, 1 inch is a PSAC best this season.Jones also won the 200 meters and placed second in the 55 meters at the invitational.
