Walter G. Wiegand

Walter G. Wiegand, 94, of Buffalo Township died Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Cabot.

Born Feb. 24, 1910, in Winfield Township, he was the son of George and Anna Mary Zier Wiegand.

During his life, he worked on the farm, was a substitute mail carrier in Sarver and worked for the Conservation Farm Program as an inspector for Buffalo, Winfield, Clinton and Jefferson townships. He also was a timekeeper for the P.W.A. road projects program, worked 28 years at Cramer's Dairy delivering milk and retired from Menzie Dairy in 1972.

After his retirement, he was the groundskeeper for St. Paul's Church in Sarver Sarverville Cemetery and continued keeping the grounds beautiful for 13 years. He served on the school board of Buffalo Township for eight years and on the finance committee, during which time they built an addition to the elementary school and built the new Freeport High School.

Mr. Wiegand was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he was a former council member and taught Sunday school for 45 years. He enjoyed gardening, walking and playing cards.

Surviving are his wife, Grace Heim Wiegand, whom he married Nov. 1944; three daughters, Mrs. Janice Beatty of Grove City, Mrs. Paul (Alice) Schmeider of Sarver and Mrs. Vincent (Charlene) Kreuer of Valencia; a sister, Mary Mochel of Cabot; five granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and a son-in-law preceded him in death.

WIEGAND - Friends of Walter G. Wiegand, who died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday atFOX FUNERAL HOME, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Emery Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in Sarverville Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church RRR Fund, 409 Sarver Road Sarver, PA 16055.
