Knights outduel Yellowjackets in tourney
Freeport's Brady Sherrieb might have won the battle, but Jordan Shoop and the Knoch boys basketball team won the war.
Sherrieb scored 31 points, including 21 on 3-pointers, but Shoop had 30 points to help the Knights to a 75-71 overtime victory in the championship game of the Freeport Christmas Tournament Tuesday.
The Knights outscored Freeport 13-9 in the extra frame for the win.
Ryan Hollihan added 20 points for the Knights (9-1) while the Yellowjackets also were paced by a solid game by Nate Kotecki, who had nine points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Freeport connected on 13 of its 19 3-point attempts.
Shoop was named the tournament MVP. He was joined on the tournament team by teammate Ryan Ziacik.
Kotecki and Sherrieb made the all-tournament team for the Yellowjackets.
