Elizabeth Irene 'Jo' Guerriere

Elizabeth Irene "Jo" Guerriere, 85, of Slippery Rock died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at Community Hospital in Pine Township, Mercer County, after a short illness.

Born in Hillsville, Lawrence County, June 13, 1919, she was the daughter of Leonard and Rose Marie Chutz.

She was a homemaker and a wonderful baker and excellent cook She enjoyed canning and was good at crafts and decorating.

Mrs. Guerriere was a member of the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church of Slippery Rock and belonged to the Christian Mothers for more than 50 years.

She greatly enjoyed her family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Loretta Fielding of Wilmington, Del., and Linda McDeavitt and her husband, John, of Slippery Rock; a sister, Barbara Kress of Gibsonia; and two brothers, Mac Chutz of Slippery Rock and Donald Chutz of Harrisville. She also is survived by three grandchildren, Holly Douglas of Wilmington, Del., Stacy Loncher of Erie and David McDeavitt of Slippery Rock; six great-grandchildren, Kristi and Herbie Douglas, Shaun Collins, Alec McDeavitt and Bethany and Brent Loncher; and a great-great-grandson, Shaun Collins Jr.

Her husband, Emerick Anthony Guerriere, whom she married June 13, 1940, died Dec. 15, 1990. She also was preceded in death by 10 siblings.

GUERRIERE - Friends of Elizabeth Irene "Jo" Guerriere, who died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with her church pastor, the Rev. James Armstrong and the Rev. James Lewis, pastor of West Liberty United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be St. Anthony Cemetery, Harrisville.
