Armand R. Cingolani Jr.
Armand R. Cingolani Jr., 75, born July 2, 1929, of Butler, died at 10:50 a.m. Monday at Concordia Lutheran Home, Cabot.
He was a prominent trial attorney accomplished in civil, divorce, criminal and appellate litigation.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Armand graduated from Butler High School in 1947, Georgetown College of Arts and Sciences in 1951 and Georgetown University's School of Law in 1953.
Then he wed the elegant and beautiful Jane Ellen Blissell and was immediately inducted into the U.S. Army. He performed his service obligation as a military policeman during the Korean War.
Armand was admitted to the practice of law in Butler in 1956 and conducted a multi-disciplinary practice until May 26, 1998, when he suffered a traumatic brain injury after over 43 years of practice. He worked with his father A.R. Cingolani Sr. in the firm of Cingolani and Cingolani, which was first established in 1925.
Throughout his school years, he was active in theatre, debate and the arts. Armand excelled in portraiture and painting. He met his wife in high school where both were finalists in the art show. Together the couple traveled the world and especially enjoyed sailing at Lake Arthur, the Chesapeake Bay and the Caribbean Sea. Ellen and Armand were married for 43 years until her death on Feb. 26, 1996.
Armand enjoyed H.O. model railroading and the Oshkosh Air Show. His avocation was the practice of jazz music. He was a gifted pianist and played in several groups throughout his life. He studied advanced jazz piano until the end of his life.
Along with his gentle nature and sense of humor, Armand had an exceptionally acute intellectual ability and a relentless curiosity about the world and humanity. He was a listener and dedicated his life to serving his clients. Bringing together deep reasoning skills with broad learning, he was a formidable adversary in a courtroom and an experienced negotiator.
He had three children, Armand R. Cingolani III, Esq., of Butler, Joan Carol Roth of Delray Beach, Fla., and Paul W. Cingolani of East Quogue, N.Y. Armand had five grandchildren, Armand R. Cingolani III is the father of Armand R. Cingolani IV, Joan is the mother Kira and Keenan Roth and Paul is the father of Miles and Logan Cingolani.
His father Armand R. Cingolani Sr. and mother Clare Lucille Cingolani nee Koch predeceased him in May 1983 and February 1996 respectively. Armand was one of four children, and he is survived by his brother, Charles L. Cingolani of Hoechenschwand, Germany, John K. Cingolani of Butler, and Nancy Sofis of Mount Lebanon. He is survived by four nieces and three nephews.
CINGOLANI - Friends of Armand R. Cingolani Jr., who died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N.
