CINCINNATI REDS- Named Jeff Brookens, Ray Hayward and Rick Sellers scouts. Promoted Paul Pierson to assistant director of amateur scouting.

HOUSTON ASTROS- Named Enos Cabell and Al Pedrique special assistants to the general manager.

MILWAUKEE BREWERS- Purchased the contract of SS J.J. Hardy, OF Brad Nelson, RHP Luis Pena, RHP Mike Hones and LHP Jeff Housman. Agreed to terms with C Pat Borders on a minor league contract.

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES- Named Rich Dubee pitching coach, Marc Bombard first-base coach, Bill Dancy third-base coach and Milt Thompson hitting coach.

SAN DIEGO PADRES- Agreed to terms with INF Damian Jackson, INF Jesse Garcia, RHP Marty McLeary and RHP Mike Brunet on minor league contracts.
